Bike Safety Gear Every Kid Needs

A good bike is only half the equation — the right safety gear keeps your child protected on every ride. Here’s what we recommend for every young cyclist.

Helmet: Non-negotiable. Look for one that meets CPSC or CE safety standards, fits snugly, and sits level on the forehead (about two finger-widths above the eyebrows). Knee and elbow pads: Especially helpful for beginners who are still finding their balance. Gloves: Protect little hands from scrapes and improve grip. Bright clothing or a safety flag: Makes your child more visible to drivers and other cyclists.

Replace any helmet that has taken a significant impact, even if you can’t see visible damage. The internal foam compresses on impact and won’t protect a second time.
